Celebrating the life of

Georgia Chafin Griesbach

Georgia Chafin Griesbach

Tybee Island, GA - Georgia Chafin Griesbach, passed away peacefully at her home on October 3, 2013 after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Atlanta, GA she was preceded in death by her parents, Grace Odum Chafin and Henry N. Chafin, her sister Phyllis Chafin, and her son, Frederick Griesbach, Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Fred, her brother, Henry N. "Bucky" Chafin Jr., her daughter, Robin, and her grandson, Taylor of Tybee Island, and her son, John Griesbach, of California.
Georgia joined the Air Force in 1956 where she met and married her husband Fred. Georgia has called Tybee her home since 1945. She was one of the first Girl Scout and Cub Scout leaders for Tybee Island and served as a leader for over 50 years, here and abroad. Georgia had a love for softball and has numerous trophies from here and Hawaii. She was an award winning pitcher and coach. Georgia loved nothing more than coaching little league and softball teams on Tybee Island. Many of her fondest memories were spent at J.C. Park on long hot days and into late afternoons, that's where you could her. She touched many lives and hearts with her quick wit and love of children and the game itself. Georgia's day consisted of a trip to The Breakfast Club for her usual "fried-egg-jack-cheese sandwich", with butter, not mayonnaise. Geogia worked for the Savannah Morning Newspaper as a carrier for over 30 years. Early in the mornings you could hear her zooming all over the Island. She had a rocket for an arm and the perfect pitch.
Georgia's candidness and outspokenness will never be forgotten.
A special thank you to Joanna Rosenberry and the Tybee Community for your love and support.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 7:00 p.m., at J.C. Park on Tybee Island.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace, 10 E. Oglethorpe Ave, Savannah, GA 31401, Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416, or Sea Island Bank, 319 Johnny Mercer Drive, Savannah, GA 31410, in memory of Georgia Griesbach. Donations will be used to purchase a new score board in Georgia's honor.
